Complex Trauma Article: Understanding Fight, Flight, Freeze, and Fawn

When we experience trauma or perceive a threat, our bodies activate an ancient survival system designed to protect us. While many people are familiar with the "fight or flight" response, modern trauma research has identified four primary ways our nervous system responds to danger: Fight, Flight, Freeze, and Fawn - commonly known as the 4F trauma responses.

Understanding these responses can be helpful for trauma survivors, helping them recognise their patterns, reduce self-criticism, and find pathways to healing.
